Retrospective Conversion Services ("RECON")

Let Mandarin and MARCIVE convert your collections according to your specifications using almost any type of source document. We are pleased to provide a 100% conversion of your holdings, including all non-book materials.

The final result? A fully converted collection customized to reflect your library's practices and a database configured and delivered to your specifications.

Brief Record Upgrade (BRU)

MARCIVE’s Brief Record Upgrade service machine-matches short records against full MARC records from the Library of Congress and other recognized sources. To function properly, your automation system requires up-to-date records, complete cataloging and MARC21 format. This service is an economical and fast way to replace poor records while retaining your existing call numbers. 

Features of the Brief Record Upgrade service include:

• Replacing matched records with the full records,
• Applying authority control to both the full and any remaining short records,  
• Performing any other agreed-upon enhancement, resulting in a superior database that would make any library proud, and
• Searching multiple databases from a number of sources, including the Library of Congress, pre-1968 Library of Congress records keyed by MARCIVE staff, National Library of Medicine. U.S. Government Printing Office, as enhanced by MARCIVE, National Library of Canada and A/V Access audiovisual cataloging records from Baker & Taylor.

MARCIVE representatives will work with you to determine which databases are going to provide the best results for your particular system.

Authorities Record Processing

When there is consistency in the forms of headings for personal, corporate and place names, uniform and series titles and subjects, your patrons can easily locate cataloged materials. Improve access to your library's collection by utilizing MARCIVE’s Authority Record Processing Service.

MARCIVE will update your library collection with the most current Library of Congress and/or SEARS name and subject headings. This process adds, verifies, and updates all headings in each bibliographic record with current authorized headings.

"See" and "See also" cross-references are added to form a reference structure that will lead patrons to related headings. The end result is a complete authority and bibliographic table ready for import into your M3 system.

Record Enrichment

MARCIVE’s MARC Record Enrichment service improves your patrons’ ability to find what they are looking for in your online public access catalog.

Regardless of the source of your records, there are three ways in which your records can be upgraded:

• Table of Contents
• Book summaries or annotations
• Fiction/Biography Enrichment

The Record Enrichment service is available as a stand-alone service and also in conjunction with Overnight Authorities and/or Brief Record Upgrade.

MARCIVE obtains its data from Syndetic Solutions, Inc., a company known for its high standards and accuracy and timeliness of its records.

Cataloging

MARCIVE is also a good source of cataloging for your new titles, as they can profile your MARC records to your specifications, including the free addition of Accelerated Reader and Lexile data.  This service is handled directly between MARCIVE and the library or district.
