Optional Modules - ZServer

The ZServer module allows your library to be part of a virtual union catalog. This means that your M3 database catalog records can be accessed and copied by other libraries around the world through a Z39.50 client so that they can “copy catalog” your records. In addition, the Z39.50 server allows your Mandarin database to be part of a larger database, giving you the ability to share library resources.

Here’s how it works:

  • M3 Zserver broadcasts the Mandarin M3 database using the library industry standard protocol Z39.50. There are 2 elements to Z39.50: M3 Z39.50 server and Z39.50 client (accomplished through Bookwhere by WebClarity) links to the BookWhere page
  • When a search is executed, results can be gathered from an individual collection, selected collections or all collections in the directory.
  • Results and item locations are returned. Performance depends on the total number of sites, circulation and patron workstations and the communications infrastructure. .
  • Mandarin’s Oasis solution includes a Z39.50 client, called “Fetch,” at no additional cost. This feature allows catalogers to copy catalog records from other Z39.59 servers worldwide.
