Optional Modules - Authority Control

So easy to use, your staff will be able to create consistent bibliographic records that are in full compliance with the Library of Congress MARC 21 Authority Standard.

This module will allow you to eliminate such common errors such as variant versions of headings and inconsistent entry points. Easily integrated with the M3 Cataloging library software module, you will find that you can automatically create local authority records, increasing consistency in the forms of headings and dramatically improving users’ access time.

 

Our Authority Control Library Software Optional Module Also:

  • Allows you to authorize staff members to edit, delete, import, or export MARC authority records.  MARC authority 4xx ("see from") and 5xx ("see also from") are automatically supported by the OPAC.

  • Automatically generates "See" and "See also" cross-references based on authority 4xx and 5xx field data, giving you a reference structure leading through cross-references to related headings appropriate to research goals.

    The "See" cross-references send patrons from headings they think the library might use to headings the library actually does use.  The "See also" cross-references lead patrons from headings they locate to other headings that may also be useful.

  • Defines a single established version of a heading. Cataloging staff can add headings to bibliographic records by linking to authority headings, ensuring proper heading formulation and eliminating the need to re-create frequently used headings.

  • Automatically perform global updates in all linked bibliographic records, keeping your catalog up to date.

  • Provides controlled access for the following headings in bibliographic records:
    • personal names
    • corporate names
    • geographic names
    • subjects (including names and titles used as subjects)
    • uniform titles
